New Options Trading Tool: Virtual trading platform

MX is happy to introduce its new Options Trading Simulator. The virtual trading platform is an online and smartphone-compatible tool that enables individual investors to execute options trading strategies, enhancing their knowledge of both options and market dynamics.

The simulator complements MX’s existing educational tools, including Options Education Days information sessions, training tutorials on m-x.tv and blog posts on optionmatters.ca. More information on educational tools is available in the “Education” section of
m-x.ca.

The online tool will also be used for the MX Options Trading Simulation program – one of MX’s educational initiatives announced in February 2012. This program allows student teams from seven universities in Quebec to create and trade a virtual portfolio of $100,000. Students are provided with an educational presentation prior to the contest, which runs for nine trading weeks beginning on October 1, 2012. The winning team will have accumulated the best return while respecting the mandatory components and will receive a $10,000 prize from MX.

For more information about the options trading simulator or to create an account, individual investors can visit m-x.ca/optionsimulator. A tutorial for first-time users is available.

@ Mr. Cohen - Thank so much for your comment and interest! We are planning other phases and will carefully review your suggestion. In the interim, have you checked out OIC’s trading tools? They have a Position Simulator and a Virtual Trading System. Go to http://www.optionseducation.org/en.html and surf the “Tools & Resources” section.

There is a free software program called OptionsOracle that does much the same analysis as the MX Options Trading Simulator, only stocks and options from many markets around the world can be accessed. Lately, the quotes and option chains for US stocks are not working properly and nobody seems to be running the website for OptionsOracle (Samoasky.com). I realize that the Trading Simulator is from the Montreal Exchange but it would really be nice if options from other markets outside Canada could be accessed.
